IT Technical Lead

My Dublin City Centre based client is recruiting for an IT Technical Lead to join a growing and exciting company. This role will be 3 days per week onsite. The IT Technical Lead to drive a large-scale legacy system remediation and modernisation initiative across EMEA. This role focuses on overseeing technical delivery, ensuring system stability, and enabling seamless integration with modern technologies while minimising disruption to business operations.

Skills and Experience

• AWS Serverless: 5+ years of hands-on experience with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Aurora PostgreSQL, and SQS, leading serverless microservices architecture for transaction processing
• Team Management & Technical Mentoring: Direct management of developers across multiple workstreams, with proven ability to provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, and lead development in Node.js and Java (Spring Boot)
• Establish development standards, guidelines, and guardrails for engineering teams
• Platform Modernisation: Experience leading complex system migrations from legacy platforms, with an understanding of policy lifecycle processes (e.g. new business, endorsements, cancellations, renewals) and regulatory considerations
• Full-Stack Integration Architecture: Design and implementation of RESTful APIs, dual database strategies (e.g. DocumentDB and PostgreSQL), and integration with upstream/downstream systems including master data and data platforms
• Delivery-Focused Leadership: Proven track record of delivering cloud-native platforms on schedule, establishing coding standards, implementing CI/CD pipelines, and engaging effectively with both technical and business stakeholders
• Lead the transformation, remediation, support, and enhancement of legacy systems, including defining and executing modernisation strategies
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across engineering teams working on both existing and new platforms
• Identify risks and implement solutions to improve system stability, security, and performance
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, and stakeholders to prioritise system improvements
• Drive refactoring, re-architecture, and documentation efforts to support smoother transitions
• Coordinate troubleshooting and root cause analysis of system issues
• Promote best practices in code quality, testing, and deployment within legacy environments
• Stay up to date with industry trends and tools related to system modernisation

Requirements

• Strong hands-on technical expertise
• Experience within insurance and/or financial services environments
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• 5+ years’ experience with AWS serverless technologies, including Lambda, API Gateway, DocumentDB, Aurora PostgreSQL, and SQS
• Strong understanding of modernisation techniques such as refactoring, re-platforming, and integration strategies
• Hands-on development experience in Node.js and Java (Spring Boot)
• Proven experience managing engineering teams and complex legacy environments
• Familiarity with modern cloud platforms and API-driven architectures
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills
• Ability to balance system stability with innovation
