We are seeking an experienced AS400 Developer to take ownership of the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) of enterprise-level applications. The successful candidate will have strong technical expertise, hands-on development skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver robust, high-quality solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain applications on the AS400 / iSeries / IBM Power Systems platform.
Demonstrate advanced proficiency in AS400 SQL, SMART, and COBOL programming.
Analyse complex business and technical requirements, identifying and implementing appropriate solutions.
Execute all phases of the SDLC, including development, code reviews, testing (QA/UAT), deployment, and post-release support.
Produce technical documentation and SDLC artefacts as required.
Collaborate closely with solution architects, project managers, product owners, and developers to ensure effective solution delivery.
Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to explain complex issues and proposed solutions.
Conduct data analysis, identifying trends and supporting data-driven decision-making.
Provide testing support to QA and business teams, defining and executing test cases as necessary.
Build strong working relationships with internal teams and external technology partners.
Research emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
Promote best practices around continuous integration, delivery, and quality assurance.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience as an AS400 Developer with a solid understanding of enterprise application design and development.
Expertise in AS400 SQL, SMART, and COBOL programming languages.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify root causes and deliver independent solutions.
Experience working within Agile, Hybrid, or Waterfall project environments.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio) and collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.
Strong understanding of change management methodologies and software delivery processes.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to operate effectively at all levels of the organization.
Deep knowledge of software development life cycles and systems implementation processes.
Experience translating business needs into technical requirements and functional specifications.
Working knowledge of data management, integration, and data quality control techniques.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
Experience with one or more of the following: Mainframe, AS400, COBOL, SQL Development, IBM WebSphere, MSP.
Experience in writing technical design documentation.
Background in financial services or other large-scale enterprise environments is advantageous.
Ability to deliver effectively within tight project timelines.
