Job Description:

Our client, a leading professional services firm, is seeking a Senior System Administrator to join their internal IT team. This is a hybrid-based position with excellent opportunities to contribute to the enhancement and stability of enterprise-scale virtualisation and automation infrastructure.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain virtualisation platforms (such as VMware and Hyper-V) to ensure scalability, availability, and secure system environments.

  • Develop and manage automated scripts and workflows using PowerShell and/or Python to optimise virtual infrastructure management tasks.

  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level support for both on-site and remote server infrastructure, handling troubleshooting and system recovery when needed.

  • Implement system upgrades and integration of hardware/software solutions with minimal impact on operational continuity.

  • Document technical procedures, architectural designs, and operational support guides for internal use.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align infrastructure with organisational and security objectives.

  • Oversee incident management, including escalation processes to internal teams or external suppliers.

  • Act as a subject matter expert in virtualisation and automation, mentoring junior staff and promoting best practices.


Experience Required:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing and architecting large-scale virtual environments.

  • Strong scripting and automation capabilities, particularly using PowerShell.

  • Solid understanding of Microsoft networking components including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.

  • Proven ability to lead technical projects from design through to implementation and support.

  • Familiarity with multi-cloud and hybrid environments including platforms such as Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud.


Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with integrating virtualisation platforms with storage technologies such as NetApp, SAN, or NAS.

  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools and methodologies.

  • Working knowledge of Linux/Unix systems.

  • Experience with Cisco networking solutions.

  • Familiarity with disaster recovery planning and implementation.

  • Valid driver’s licence.


Educational Requirements:

  • A third-level qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
