This is a newly created Azure Platform Engineer position within a business undergoing a major cloud transformation, migrating from a hosted data centre to Microsoft Azure. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping, optimising, and supporting their Azure environment, working within a collaborative IT team of seven. This role is perfect for someone with a strong technical foundation who thrives in a hands-on, solutions driven environment.

Platform Engineer Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Azure cloud migration initiatives and ongoing service optimisation, ensuring security best practices and cost efficiency.
  • Implement and manage Microsoft Azure infrastructure, Microsoft 365, Defender and Intune environments.
  • Provision and manage Windows devices, package and deploy software, and administer user identities using Microsoft tooling.
  • Provide technical support to IT Operations, acting as an escalation point for complex end-user and infrastructure issues.
  • Coordinate and oversee third-party suppliers to ensure successful delivery of agreed services.
  • Manage incidents, changes and service requests via JIRA Service Management.
  • Identify and remediate vulnerabilities, strengthening the organisation's overall cloud security posture.
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure & Operations leadership and Technical Architecture to optimise cloud performance and resilience.

Platform Engineer Requirements

  • Proven experience implementing and optimising Microsoft cloud technologies, particularly Azure Infrastructure.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Microsoft 365, Intune, Defender and identity management solutions.
  • Broad exposure to traditional IT infrastructure alongside modern cloud environments.
  • Experience supporting Azure migrations and cloud transformation initiatives.
  • Understanding of security best practice, vulnerability remediation and infrastructure hardening.
  • Ability to manage third-party suppliers and assess solutions objectively to ensure fit-for-purpose services.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to take ownership of technical decisions.
  • Flexibility for occasional UK site visits and out-of-hours support where required.
