Contract: 12 months initial
Start Date: January 2027
Clearance: Live SC required
Why Apply?
I'm working with a highly respected, award-winning digital transformation consultancy on a major technology programme within a complex government environment. They're looking for a DevOps Lead to help shape the future of how software is built, tested, secured and released.
You'll play a key role in modernising an enterprise CI/CD environment, moving from existing tooling, including Concourse CI, to a strategic GitHub Actions-based delivery platform within AWS. This is a chance to set the direction rather than just follow it, defining the approach, creating the standards teams will adopt and planning a migration that minimises disruption to live services.
This is a senior DevOps leadership role that needs both strategic thinking and strong practical knowledge. It also offers real potential for longevity, and the consultancy's wide range of clients can lead to further opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical review and evolution of existing CI/CD tooling, processes and engineering practices.
- Help define the future CI/CD and Route to Live approach, moving from Concourse CI and existing pipeline tooling to GitHub Actions.
- Design and establish reusable pipelines, workflows, templates and automation standards.
- Improve developer experience, simplify deployment processes and reduce unnecessary technical complexity.
- Make sure security, governance, approval and assurance requirements are built into automated CI/CD processes.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on AWS infrastructure, DevSecOps and deployment automation.
- Define practical migration approaches that minimise disruption to existing services and engineering teams.
- Contribute to technical architecture and solution design, ensuring CI/CD capabilities are secure, scalable and maintainable.
- Work with engineering, architecture, security and delivery teams to drive consistent standards and best practice.
Key Requirements
- Live SC clearance. Sponsorship cannot be provided.
- Extensive experience in senior DevOps, platform engineering or technical leadership positions.
- Strong experience designing, developing and improving enterprise CI/CD platforms.
- Excellent knowledge of GitHub Actions and Concourse CI.
- Strong AWS experience, including cloud infrastructure, security, identity, integration and automation.
- Experience developing reusable pipeline templates, workflows and standardised engineering practices.
- A strong understanding of DevSecOps, security automation and governance within CI/CD environments.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- A good understanding of build, test, artefact management, deployment, release and approval processes.
- Experience supporting CI/CD platform migrations, modernisation or transformation.
- The ability to provide technical direction and influence stakeholders.
Desirable
- Bitbucket, SonarQube, Trivy and Checkov
- AWS event and API integration patterns
- Container and image build platforms, and artefact repositories
- Integrating CI/CD platforms with ServiceNow or similar ITSM tools
- Observability, platform resilience and release evidence capabilities
What's in it for me?
- Up to £650 per day (Inside IR35).
- A 12-month initial contract with real potential for longevity.
- Predominantly remote working.
- The chance to shape the CI/CD strategy on a major government transformation programme.
- Modern technology, including GitHub Actions, AWS and automated security controls.
- The opportunity to work with a highly skilled, high-calibre consultancy, with the potential for future work.
Please note: there is a 4-6 week onboarding period after offer, and you won't be able to start until all checks have been completed.
