Location: Remote-first (UK-based) Salary: Up to £120,000 + benefits

About the Company

Join a growth-stage technology company investing in the next phase of their engineering and platform capability. As they scale, they're building out a dedicated platform function to support secure, reliable, and developer-friendly delivery across the organisation.

Role Overview

This is an opportunity for a lead/principal-level Platform Engineer to help build a secure, reliable, developer-friendly platform function that enables engineering teams to deliver quickly and safely. You'll start as a hands-on senior technical contributor, laying the foundations for a future platform engineering capability, with the role expected to evolve as they scale.

This is a platform enablement role, not traditional ops support - focused on automation, operational maturity, resilience, and developer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure and platform tooling
  • Improve reliability, observability, deployment automation, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Build reusable platform capabilities (e.g. event streaming, storage/provisioning patterns, secrets management)
  • Improve developer experience through self-service tooling, golden paths, and reduced operational friction
  • Partner with security/engineering leadership to operationalise RBAC, access governance, and compliance requirements
  • Support incident response, monitoring, and operational SLAs
  • Mentor engineers and help shape long-term platform strategy and standards

Required Experience & Skills

  • Strong background in platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or cloud infrastructure
  • Deep experience with a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Strong infrastructure-as-code skills (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, etc.)
  • Experience with CI/CD, Linux, containerisation, and Kubernetes
  • Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architecture, or streaming platforms
  • Working knowledge of RBAC, IAM, secrets management, and operational security practices, ideally in a regulated environment
  • Strong automation/scripting ability and systems-thinking approach
  • Comfortable operating in a scaling, growth-stage environment

Key Competencies

  • Automation-first, ownership-driven mindset
  • Strong communication and cross-team collaboration
  • Calm under operational pressure
  • Ability to simplify complexity and improve engineering flow

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
